Like Gretchen I don’t usually do this kind of stuff, but she’s one of my best friends and I couldn’t say no now could I? Here goes for what it’s worth…
1. I’m insanely good at almost every board and card game out there. This sounds like bragging I know, but it is a weird factoid. Mr. Zoë and I regularly play various games and no matter how much he plans I always seem to win – without trying sometimes. Case in point, I recently purchased Yatzee! and though Mr. Zoë spent time on practice sessions etc. I have beaten him every time. Same goes for Uno, Scrabble, Gin, Boggle, Trivial pursuit, Taboo and all the other games in our closet.
2. I may only be 5’2” (and that’s on a “tall day”) but I still have a high school varsity letter and state championship credits for volleyball. I was a defensive specialist, mainly playing in the back row digging spikes or passing blocked balls. I’m quick and my height made it easy for me to hit the floors.
3. I can be reading between 4-6 books at any given time. Some people need to focus, but sometimes I get bored with a book, or worse find myself reading through a book to quickly. To slow things down I usually have a revolving set of books on my nightstand. Right now all the books are pretty much baby related, but I love good mysteries – just finished The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Sutterfield – historical fiction, and anything set in New England, Ireland, Scotland or other parts of the UK. I don’t care for science fiction or fantasy.
4. I’m shy. Um, this may not seem obvious and most people that know me well would not characterize me this way. But then again, they know me well. In new crowds or situations I tend to hang back and observe before diving in and getting to know people. Unfortunately, once you get to know me I may never shut up! I prefer to interact with people in smaller groups and tend to stay away from large crowd situations – they scare me!
5. The longest I have lived anywhere is Seattle. I moved around a lot as a kid and in early adulthood so don’t have the typical nostalgic feelings about a “home”. When people ask me where home is, it’s where I am at now. It was good for me growing up because it taught me how to make friends quickly and get to know people. Now I am working on learning how to build long term relationships over time.
